“It was really interesting,” said Cadet Lieutenant Andrew Wei, a senior student at the academy. “I like the ethnic diversity they had, all the different ethnic groups in the show.”
The performance received a warm welcome from the audience at West Point, with calls for an encore during the show, and with standing ovations as the curtains closed.
“It shows ethnic diversity,” Lt. Wei said, adding that it has “a lot about Chinese culture, especially [for] people who are interested in it. It was really a great show.”
Adam Tohn, a Cadet at the academy, said he enjoyed how the dancers incorporated flips and other movements into their dances, “and the choreography—I guess individual talent mixed with choreography—it was cool.”
Classical Chinese dance has several aspects to it. There is emphasis placed on postures, expressions, movements, and aesthetics that carry the essence of Chinese cultural expressions. It upholds the ancient Chinese belief that the inner beauty and purity of each performer is expressed through their art.
“I’ve never seen [a show] like this before,” said Fernando Parrales, a retired Army staff sergeant. “This is my first time watching this one. I love it.”
